On a freezing cold afternoon a couple of winters ago, a young rock musician friend dropped by my house for a visit. I noticed that around her neck she was wearing a completely ordinary little scarf. Not wanting to sound insensitive, I asked if she had any emotional attachment to it. Since there were no such sentiments involved I then asked if she would like me to knit her a winter scarf that was worthy of a rock star. Now I’m not sure that she believed that a winter scarf could have rock star qualities, but she said she’d be pleased to own one. I wasn’t exactly sure what a rock star scarf was either at the time that I made the promise, but it turned out so well that other people wanted one too.
The original scarf has traveled many miles, and endured many adventures. Apparently all that living has only gone to make the scarf better.
